From
seed to seedling, sprout to tree, a flower blooms forth to
face the sunshine and grace the air with its fragrance. With
roots firmly gripping the soil and leaves protectively encircling,
the gift is plucked from the grip of the branch with care
by the lei maker. Through the feelings of the heart and
the experienced skill of the hands these flowers shine even
more brightly on the string of the lei. Long after
the lifespan of the individual flower, the memory of the
beauty of the lei remains intact.
A string of songs, each conceived as a seed and given nourishment
by the land, the rain, and the sun around us, is now presented
to you. In the same way
that each flower makes up the whole of this lei, let each song conjure a fragrance
and beauty of its own.
"...He `ohu i ka lei hali‘a."
"...Adorned with a lei of fond recollection."
— Fred Krauss
